Warcraft II is the perfection of the real time strategy genre and one of the most acclaimed PC games of all time. It's highly polished and simplistic game play has stood the test of time and continues to be one of the most enjoyable games to be found in the computer gaming world. Easy to learn and hard to master, Warcraft II is the perfect entry for both skilled and entry level gamers. Back in 1996 when the game was originally released it took the gaming industry by storm and revolutionized the real time strategy genre.
The main object of the game is to construct an army to gain control over your enemies. To achieve this players must take full advantage of their peons and peasants to properly exploit resources and construct buildings to better equip their growing army. Unlike modern real time strategy games Warcraft II only makes use of a handful of different unit types, which to some will seem limiting. In reality this allows for much more organized armies and openings for human error as the game play relies more on speed and timing then the countering of enemy units to succeed. Warcraft II is a war of attrition more so then a war of technological advancement or supreme tactics. Players would be wise to focus on creating the perfect build order to fit their strategy, as this will greatly increase their chances of success.
Warcraft II features two factions, the orcs and the humans. Both factions are nearly identical to each other besides the spells and upgrades available to their more advanced units. While this similarity may seem a disadvantage, it actually allows for a level playing field.
